Dr. Mir Mohammad Maqbool
Dr. Mir Mohammad Maqbool, an otorhinolaryngologist by profession, did his MBBS from M.G.H Medical College Indore &bewed SMHS Hospital Srinagar as house surgeon in 1959. After one year he was posted in Gulmarg as Medical /Officer and later in time was appointed as Registrar of ENT and ophthalmology combined Department. Thereafter he left for post-graduation in otolaryngology to King George Medical College Lucknow where D.L.O (Diploma in otorhinolaryngology) and the M.S (Master of Surgery) in otorhinolaryngology was procured in 1965. After coming back to Srinagar was posted as Assistant Professor ENT, GMC Srinagar in 1968. It was under his responsible oversight that Hearing & Speech Centre at SMHS Hospital was established and organized the first academic conference of otorhinolaryngology in 1969. In the year 1970 Dr. Mir Mohammad Maqbool started an NGO by the name of “Voluntary Medicare Society” for the sole purpose of treating poor, down trodden & handicapped patients of remote villages of the valley who could not afford to come to Srinagar Hospitals. It was him who published the much-needed Textbook of:
- Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases adopted for university courses and syllabi in most of the Medical Colleges in India, Bangladesh and the Middle East.
- “Multiple Choice questions” booklet for Otorhinolaryngology, adopted by the most of the universities of India for examinations in Otorhinolaryngology.
- Booklet on “Syndromes in Otorhinolaryngology”
- Over sixty-five papers on different Medical entities published in many Reputed foreign and Indian Medical journals.
